Important Preparation Tip:
Do not fully defrost the fish before cooking.
Ayu is best cooked from semi-defrosted condition as the flesh is delicate and may become too soft when fully thawed. Fully defrosting may also cause the roe inside to break during cooking.
How to Cook (Air Fryer Recommended):
Remove from freezer
Soak sealed pack in water for about 15 minutes (semi-defrost only)
Lightly season with salt
(Tip: rub some salt on the fins for nicer presentation)
Air Fryer Method:
• Preheat air fryer to 200°C
• Air fry 5 minutes each side
• Let fish rest for 5 minutes before serving
Storage:
Keep frozen at -18°C.
Do not refreeze after thawing.
Note:
Ayu fish contains fine bones which soften after cooking and are traditionally enjoyed whole in Japan.
